How does the Cimex Eradicator work?

The Cimex Eradicator is a steam generator with a special steam nozzle - the Steam Disinfector (with a Polti patent) - that superheats steam up to 180°C, which is the right temperature for killing bed bugs due to thermal shock.

What kind of water should be used?

The Cimex Eradicator has been designed to work with normal tap water with an average hardness between 8° and 20° f. If the tap water contains a lot of limescale use a mixture of 50% tap water and 50% commercially available demineralised water. Do not use pure demineralised water. (For more information on water hardness please contact your local council).

How does the Cimex Eradicator kill bed bugs?

The bed bugs are killed by thermal shock. The Cimex Eradicator's steam has a temperature of up to 180°C which penetrates the bed bugs’ nesting places very effectively. Laboratory tests show that at the first pass, it eliminates more than 90% of the adult insects (Tests by Pest 2000 & Pest 3000, Italy – for more information).

What signs indicate the presence of bed bugs?

Bed bugs are visible to the naked eye at all stages of their life cycle. It may be difficult, especially for an untrained eye, to identify newborn larvae and eggs. Bed bugs are small parasitic insects with an oval-shape, rusty red in colour and measuring about 5-6 mm in the adult stage. They feed exclusively on blood, they do not live on the human body but come into contact with it only to feed, preferring to spend the rest of their time in hidden corners close to the place where humans sleep or spend a lot of time. Looking at bed sheets it is possible to find traces of blood , as effect of the bites, or bed bugs’ excrements. Humans may notice their presence from bites on the naked parts of the body (arms, face etc.).

Where do bed bugs nest?

Bed begs spend most of their time hidden in narrow areas such as crevices/folds in fabrics, seams, cracks, mattresses, bed bases, electrical sockets, paintings, bedside tables, wall lamps, curtains, skirting boards, door and window frames, sofas and armchairs. By nature they nest close to their hosts and when a whole room has been infested they may be found anywhere moving outwards from the bed.

Can I use my Vaporetto steam cleaner to kill bed bugs?

No, the steam of a Vaporetto cleaner does not have the same characteristics. However , if the Vaporetto is compatible, you can connect the Steam Disinfector steam nozzle which superheats steam up to 180°C and which can kill beg bugs by thermal shock. The Steam Disinfector can be connected to compatible Vaporetto or Vaporetto Lecoaspira products.
