To stay safe from seasonal diseases we try to avoid excessive changes in temperature, dress adequately and above all fill up the vitamin tank in order to strengthen our immune system; therefore our pantry should never be without in-season fresh fruits and vegetables that, thanks to their properties, help us face winter.

The following widespread remedy to fight flu is, in fact, completely natural and very easy to make.

  • 2 untreated lemons
  • 5 cm of fresh ginger
  • honey
  • cinnamon
  • a glass 350 ml jar

Carefully wash the lemons and the ginger and cut both into small slices. Place the slices in the jar, alternating lemon and ginger layers. Pour honey until the slices are fully covered; add a sprinkle of cinnamon and stir. Close the jar and let it sit in the fridge for a couple of days. Store in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Take directly from the spoon or infuse in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes to get a soothing tea.

Lemons, rich in vitamin C, strengthen the immune system and neutralise free radicals. Ginger favours the elimination of toxins and soothes stomach ailments such as nausea or vomiting. Honey soothes cough and throat inflammations, avoiding fever. Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties.
